Gluco Balance is a food supplement based on chromium, a mineral useful because it contributes to the control of the metabolism of macronutrients, in particular it regulates blood glucose levels. Enriched with blueberry fruit to promote intestinal regularity, milk thistle to support the body's purifying functions, and vitamin B6 for a proper metabolism of proteins and glycogen.
Chromium is used in the composition is in the form of its salt picolinate (chromium + picolinic acid) or a bioactive form highly usable by our cells. Chromium is an important element present in the trace in our body. It represents the so-called "glucose tolerance factor". This means that it is able to regulate glucose transport from the cytoplasm to the cell membrane, antagonizing intracellular hypoglycosis. Chromium contributes to the physiological:
-Metabolism of macronutrients;
-Maintenance of normal blood glucose levels.
Another ingredient is the blueberry fruit. The main constituents of the drug are anthocyanins (0.5%); other constituents are tannins, some organic acids including hydroxycinnamic and hydroxybenzoic acids. The blueberry contains moderate quantities of organic acids (citric, malic, ...), sugars, pectins, tannins, anthocyanins, vitamin A, C and, in smaller quantities, vitamin B. The antioxidant action is carried out especially at the level of microcirculation and is in many respects comparable with that of the bioflavonoids (which constitute the vitamin complex P). The addition of blueberry in the formulation has a double effect: antioxidant action and natural source of chromium, about 9 parts per million. Blueberry therefore supports:
-Functionality of the microcirculation (heaviness of the legs);
-Wellness of sight;
-Regularity of intestinal transit.
The Milk thistle is a plant of the Italian herbal tradition spread in the central and southern regions and in the islands. To the Cardo mariano various properties are attributed, among which particularly those hepatoprotective and antioxidants stand out. More in detail, these activities are attributed to the silymarin contained in the plant. There are several studies that have confirmed the above mentioned properties attributed to the plant, so that its use has been officially approved to assist:
-Purifying functions of the organism;
The formulation is also enriched with carnosine and alpha-lipoic acid.

Silymarin is a mixture consisting mainly of three substances: silybin, silicristin and silidianin. This complex of flavonolignani is found in several plants, especially in the Cardo mariano where it is originally present in the ratio 3: 1: 1 (silibine is therefore considered the most important component from the quantitative and qualitative point of view).
Silymarin is not present in the leaves of milk thistle, but is concentrated in the seeds and in the protein layer of the outer surface of the fruit.
It has been seen that silymarin, one of the main constituents of the Milk Thistle, is able to reduce hyperglycemia in subjects with type 2 diabetes. This is probably made possible thanks to the compound's ability to reduce intracellular peroxide levels and increase insulin secretion.
Moreover, it seems very probable that the constituents of the Milk thistle are nuclear receptor agonists PPAR-γ (gamma receptor activated by peroxisome proliferators), the target of thiazolidinedione (traditional molecules used to treat type 2 diabetes). PPAR-γ, in fact, regulates the deposit of fatty acids and glucose metabolism: therefore it is of fundamental importance in diabetic pathology.
